So after downloading the new Logic Pro X I attempted to send a project from FCPX using XML. The Result? A complete mess.
There is no functionality for roles, the clips were incorrectly positioned and the analysis of files took a *long* time. It also seemed to be analysing files that were part of my (sizable) FCPX Event, but were not part of my project.
So I’m thinking (hoping) that we will see an update soon to allow FCPX and LPX to get along as we all assume they will.
Exploring the interface today I found this little hint:
There is no such functionality in FCPX yet to “share to media browser”.
That’s a pretty big clue that an update is required and coming on the FCPX front and I think it’s pretty shabby of Apple to not have had that ready to drop on LPX’s release. I think things are aligning for a “sooner rather than later” 10.0.9 update followed later in the year by a 10.1 to come with the new Mac Pro.
Actually FCPX does have a “Share to Media Browser”. Create a destination for Share > Export File and choose “When Done: Open in Media Browser”.
See if that does anything. I’m hoping that you are in fact right and there is a new functionally.
I know what you’r referring to but that is a “share movie to media browser” function and not a “share project to media browser function”. The dialog box says the “Project” is not prepared for sharing and I have a project selected.
It goes on to say that the option should be found in the Share menu. “Choose Share > Media Browser”
I’m hoping I’m right too 😉 In fact I’m more sure of it now.
No, actually you’re NOT onto something, sorry. As the message in the window clearly says, you simply use the Share to Media Browser function to have it importable into LPX from that pane. That works as described TODAY. Sending the full, roles supported project back and forth will entail equal/full FCPXML support on the part of LPX, which is sure to come along with the next update of FCP which also includes a new version of its XML (1.3) which in turn includes further and much needed audio support for the whole exchange to even work decently to begin with.
Correct Andy – this is an older post but I totally agree with you at this point.
Nicely spotted! I think you’re on to something big, here.
