Every now and then we’ll get an enquiry from an Editor on the Registry and decide the answer might be of interest to more than just the one who asked the question.
Here’s today’s:
Q. I was wondering in your experience which of the two versions of Final Cut Pro is being used more? FCP7 or FCPX?
Currently in my experience it seems FCP7 is still being used more and I am doing everything I can to change that – with what little influence I have 😉
We have had a few FCPX jobs come through but the real issue seems to be that only new producers seem to want to use it which is insane because so many of the jobs I see being done in FCP7 would be so much better served by FCPX. But producers have “heard things” about it and are spooked.
Personally I haven’t touched anything except FCPX in over a year but that’s because I have the luxury of deciding what I edit on (I choose to only work remotely).
The way I see it going is the editors that get the most work will be those who can jump between systems.I also see FCPX exploding as the newer editors rise up into the industry in much the same way Legacy FCP did.
Oh – and Motion GFX skills are as in hot demand as always.
Hope that helps 🙂
